St. Peter Damian icon fundraising!

DALLAS – The Saint Peter Damian Society is proud to announce a new fundraising project in continuation of our mission to promote devotion to our patron saint. Last month on Wednesday, October 14, General Director Jonathan Carp signed, and returned, a contract to commission artist Gwyneth Thompson-Briggs to paint an icon/portrait of St. Peter Damian.

Thompson-Briggs received her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Painting degree from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Lakewood, Colorado, and is dedicated to reviving the techniques of Renaissance and Baroque art to reveal God’s glory. In addition to receiving numerous awards, and being featured in countless art exhibitions, Thompson-Briggs has done work for private collections and churches internationally. In 2017, she was specifically asked to create a painting of St. Augustine for Benedict XVI.

As such, she is the most perfect candidate the Society could hope to commission as an artist. The Society hopes to raise $5000 to cover the cost of commissioning and distributing such an important piece.

Generous donors have already pledged to match donations up to $2,000. The finished project will be downloadable for free from the Society website. Additionally, the Society plans to create prayer cards, and to enable prints to be purchased for individual use and devotion. Furthermore, there will be tiered levels of donation during the fundraising effort, and donors will receive prints and prayer cards with the icon (and more) as a “thank you” based on donation amount. Details of these tiers will be announced soon.

The Society is confident in its members’ ability to assist in this task, and welcomes any donation, large or small, that helps to fund this holy project.
